Premier Andrews announced the members of the South West Healthcare Community Advisory Committee during his visit to the region in July.
The committee has been established to complete the development of a master plan, feasibility study, tender documentation and other components necessary to make the project shovel ready.
I have been working with the government to secure funding for this project for some time and securing the $7.5 million required for planning in the May budget was a vital first step in completing the stage two development.
Committee members are:
- Member for Western Victoria James Purcell;
- SWH CEO Craig Fraser;
- Community advocate and Peter's Project chairman Peter Headen;
- Community advocate and Peter's Project campaigner Vicki Jellie;
- SWH board member Russell Worland.
The committee is charged with securing the remaining $105 million required to complete stage two of the expansion, which will include additional theatre and emergency department capacity, as well as refurbishment of the multi-storey block, short-stay unit, pathology and radiology.
South West Healthcare is a key medical provider, with a catchment area of 110,000 people. It treated about 23,000 emergency patients in 2016/17 and this critical upgrade will provide much needed improvements to this very important medical facility.
