The members of an advisory committee that will drive the stage two expansion planning for South West Healthcare were announced today by Premier Daniel Andrews during his visit to Warrnambool.
Western Victoria MP James Purcell – who will chair the community advisory committee – said it was established to complete the development of a master plan, feasibility study, tender documentation and other components necessary to make the project shovel ready.
"I have been working with the government to secure funding for this project for some time and securing the $7.5 million required for planning in the May budget was a vital first step in completing the stage two development," Mr Purcell said.
Committee members are:
- Member for Western Victoria James Purcell (Chair)
- SWH acting CEO Craig Fraser
- SWH board member Russell Worland
- Community advocate and Peter's Project chairman Peter Headen
- Community advocate and Peter's Project campaigner Vicki Jellie
Mr Purcell said it was fitting the Premier announced the committee as he was responsible for the funding of the stage one development in his earlier role as Health Minister.
"We take this opportunity to thank him for his commitment to health services in our region back then, and for seeing the project through with additional funding now," said Mr Purcell.
"This committee will be charged with securing the remaining $105 million required to complete stage two of the expansion, which will include additional theatre and emergency department capacity, as well as refurbishment of the multi-storey block, short-stay unit, pathology and radiology," he said.
South West Healthcare is a key medical provider, with a catchment area of 110,000 people. It treated 27,000 emergency departments in 2014/15 and this critical upgrade will provide much needed improvements to this very important medical facility.
