Purcell to find $7m for Reid Oval before season’s end

Finalise the Reid Oval development plans and I will secure $7 million in State Government funding by the end of the football season, says Member for Western Victoria James Purcell.

Mr Purcell secured $100,000 for detailed design works in July last year, but the report has still not been released by the Warrnambool City Council.

“It’s almost a year since I secured the funding but we are still waiting on the report,” Mr Purcell said.

“If the Council can do their part and complete the plans within the next six weeks I will deliver $7 million before the end of the football season.

“The project is stalled by the absence of these plans and until they are completed we can’t progress the project further.”

Mr Purcell said it was critical the report was finished.

“Sporting facilities like Reid Oval are the heart of regional communities and we have been actively lobbying and working with the government to secure $7 million in funding during this term of government.

“This commitment is not something I have made lightly but the Council needs to do its bit to ensure I can deliver for the people of south-west Victoria.”
