Western District MP James Purcell has asked the Racing Minister to intervene to improve radio reception in south west Victoria.
In Parliament yesterday Mr Purcell said the south west was arguably the strongest racing region in Victoria, yet it was virtually impossible to listen to races on AM radio.
“Racing is a big industry in our region, yet radio services for race meetings are available only on Melbourne and Ballarat frequencies,” Mr Purcell said.
The reception for the Racing and Sport Network channel 927 from Melbourne and 1314 from Ballarat was subject to static and interference on good days and virtually impossible at times.
“Over many years I have raised this issue with racing officials in Victoria, racing radio and the Warrnambool Racing Club - without any success or apparent interest.”
Mr Purcell has asked the Minister to intervene to improve this most basic service for the racing industry and race following public in our region.
