Purcell secures $7.5 million for South West Healthcare.

Member for Western Victoria James Purcell is thrilled with today’s announcement of$7.5 million for Warrnambool’s South West Healthcare, to make the stage two expansion shovel ready.

MrPurcell has been campaigning for the funding for many months and is chairing agovernment-appointed community committee to progress the stage two expansion.

“Iam absolutely thrilled with the $7.5 million announced in today’s statebudget,” Mr Purcell said.

“Ihave been working with the government for many months to secure this fundingand I am extremely pleased to see it included in the budget.

“The$7.5 million will be used to develop a master plan, feasibility study, tenderdocumentation and other components necessary to make the project shovel ready.It is a huge step towards securing the remaining $105 million required tocomplete stage two.”

Thestage two expansion will include additional theatre and emergency departmentcapacity, as well as refurbishment of the multi-storey block, short stay unit,pathology and radiology.

“SWHis a key medical provider, with a catchment area of 110,000 people. It treated27,000 emergency departments in 2014/15 and this critical upgrade will providemuch needed improvements to this very important medical facility.”

MrPurcell said the new community advisory committee would be moving towardssecuring bipartisan support for the hospital expansion at the 2018 stateelection.

“Wehave some excellent candidates in the mix for the committee and as soon as theyreceive Ministerial approval we will be unveiling the committee.

“Thiswill be in the very near future and then it will be full steam ahead to ensurewe secure the next round of funding so construction can begin.”

Thisis not the first time the Andrews Government has created an advisory group fora hospital service, with the Goulburn Valley Health Community Advisory Group established in 2015. Chaired by Independent Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed, Goulburn Valley Health was allocated $168.5m in the 2016/2017 budget fordevelopment.
