Member for Western Victoria James Purcell has secured $2 million for the Port Fairy Bowls Club, to upgrade its dated clubrooms.
Mr Purcell campaigned for the funding following an approach from club board member Bob Mallett.
“We send out a call inviting people to contact us if we could help in any way,” Mr Purcell said.
“The Port Fairy Bowls Club was the only community organization to ask us to help for funding during that time, so we took their cause on board and have campaigned on their behalf.
“We are thrilled with the outcome.”
The $2 million will be used to replace the existing outdated clubrooms. Mr Mallett said the rooms were built in the mid 1960s and extended in the early 1970s. He said the current building would be demolished and totally rebuilt.
“The existing clubrooms are just old and need a lot of maintenance. The brick work is starting to fall off and we have always had trouble with the roof leaking since the extension.
“We already have plans for the new rooms.
“This funding will give us a fresh start and hopefully attract more members.”
The bowls club currently has 110 members.
