The upgrade of Reid Oval took a step forward today with a visit from Premier Daniel Andrews.
Western Victoria MP James Purcell joined the Premier and members of the Hampden Leage, Warrnambool Football Netball Club and Nestles Cricket Clubs to discuss the redevelopment.
"Sporting facilities like Reid Oval are the heart of regional communities and it is encouraging to see the government investing in this upgrade, which will take a step towards providing local clubs with access to the AFL standard facilities they deserve," said Mr Purcell.
Labor has allocated $100,000 for detailed design works following the completion of the master plan for the Oval redevelopment.
Mr Purcell said he will continue to push for future funding needed to complete the redevelopment, which will include a new playing surface, improved amenities for players, more seats, cricket training facilities, lighting upgrades and a new sporting association hub.
"The Hampden League has produced many AFL greats, including Marty Gleeson, Lewis Taylor, Jonathan Brown, Jordan Lewis and the late Paul Couch.
“The Reid Oval is the league’s major sporting centre yet it has antiquated change facilities and is simply not up to the standard of facilities in many other regional locations.
"We will continue to pursue funding to see this project to completion.”
