$400,000 for Koroit netball facilities

A much needed upgrade and extension of the female change rooms and netball facilities at the Koroit Football Netball club will soon be underway thanks to $400,000 in funding secured by Member for Western Victoria James Purcell.

James Purcell's message for the Koroit Football Netball Club.

Mr Purcell has been working on funding for sporting facility upgrades in the south-west and said he was thrilled to announce the $400,000 as Parliament closed this week.

"The club has been working hard on having everything in place, having this project shovel ready. We have been lobbying Ministers for funding, pushing for results before the season finishes so that works can be completed during the off season," said Mr Purcell.

"It's a really great feeling to be able to deliver the money needed to make this project happen.”

The club approached Mr Purcell's office for funding assistance after seeing a call for projects needing support in Mr Purcell's newsletter.

"Koroit will have the best netball facilities in the region and now has the infrastructure in place to also allow women’s football to flourish and to bring visiting teams to Koroit to play.

"My role is to take requests from the community to Government, to solve stalemate problems in the community when the rules don't match reality, and help local clubs access the funding they need for facility upgrades.

"There is funding available; there are usually solutions for everything; and I have been fortunate this term to be able to help identify opportunities, cut through red tape and give our community a voice."

Koroit Football Netball Club President Steve Hoy said the club was thrilled with the announcement.

“It’s a long overdue development for our netballers, for everything they’ve done and great recognition for all who have contributed to netball for many years,” Mr Hoy said.

“It’s great to see some real reward and we’re very grateful to James for securing the funds for us.”
