A cleanup and ongoing management of the East Beach landfill site is underway with $1.5 million over three years allocated to manage the site.
Western District MP James Purcell said the funding would come from the Labor government's Sustainability Fund and would support ongoing management of the site.
“The East Beach landfill site has been of great concern for many years and after much lobbying and consultation it’s great to secure funding to get this cleaned up,” said Mr Purcell.
“Again we see the power of a local community, their council and state government member working together for a positive outcome to an ongoing problem. I’m very proud to be part of driving this process to get a funding outcome that will make a huge difference to the health and safety of users of East Beach," he said.
Future planning and management option for the site would be included in the three year project, including potential rehabilitation of the area.
